New lighter HF backpack
1 min readI have completed my lighter HF backpack..
So it’s a modified Karrimor aluminium backpack..
On the main backpack frame is the main body of an Yaesu FT891 and in front of me is a small pouch which is the front of the radio fed via an RJ12 cable mounted in foam…
Also mounted on the frame is the Yaesu MAT 30 Auto ATU which is remotely controlled by the front of the radio via the front pouch..
The power comes from a 18Ah LIPO battery…
I’m using a home made toroidal GTU with the return line in my clothes and down my leg to give sufficient ground coupling…
It’s capable of up to 100W but I’ve set it to 50W but it’s adjustable from the front panel on the remote…
The antenna is a full sized quarter wave vertical adjustable in length for all HF bands down to 20m …
The new fully laden backpack weighs 6.2kg on the scales so 2kg lighter than my other backpack.
